Saturday at the lake.........

Saturday was Jeff's birthday......and we were surprised by a visit from our daughter, her SO and the 3 grandsons. They had a very nice birthday gift for Grandpa - a deck tote to put all the life jackets and other "play gear" in. They even put it together and filled it up ! Empty jet-ski lifts means they are out on the water playing.......

Taylor was busy fishing off the dock.......Jennifer waiting her turn to ride.

Ike wanted to try to water ski..........he sure gave it a few (many) tries...... He was so sore and tired when he came in... I bet next time he will make it up out of the water.

It was a beautiful afternoon..........and very little boat and ski traffic on the water........just like having the whole lake to yourself !

After they were done playing........we ate "lake food".....grilled burgers and chicken, corn on the cob, pasta salad and a cold MDG64 (for some of us).

We sure had some tired boys - I am sure they slept all the way home.

So now our birthdays are done for the year..........and Jeff is a "Happy Grandpa".

On a clear day..........

Not a cloud in the sky and not a ripple on the lake.... what a great day at the lake! There is nothing prettier than the lake on a clear calm morning....

We have a lone loon that comes back here every year....there are other pairs on the lake, but this one is always alone. He turned his head because a fish came up out of the water ......hmmmm breakfast he was thinking!

He went under water and I was hoping he would come up closer to me.....but he came up way out in the lake.

Guess I better get busy.....I am going to a neighbors for coffee and then come back and get back to my sewing. I really am getting stuff done - but there are so many things to take pictures of outside....I haven't put my sewing pictures on here yet.

Beautiful morning for water skiing.............but it messed up the glassy water.

Wednesday ............

Here is my tub of projects......

And more projects............ Hope I don't run out of things to sew. I know it really doesn't look like "projects" to some of you, but the quilters will understand that there really is "projects" in those piles.

It was a windy day on West McDonald Lake.........


I really love to watch the water and the waves.......reminds me of the ocean - on a smaller scale.

There were white-caps on the water almost all day....now at 6:30pm the wind seems to be dieing down a bit.

I have been sewing pretty much all day.......and really enjoying my day at the lake. I will share pictures of my projects next time....unless I find something pretty outside to take pictures of.

Tuesday night arriving at the lake............

I finally made it to the cabin about 6pm Tuesday evening...... after a day of running and appts.....I made it !
First on the agenda was a little supper..... I saw a "Sweet Corn Stand" on the way down... and I just had to stop. This was the first sweet corn I had this year......and it was delicious. I know, I have to be very careful with corn... I only had one. Yesterday while I was trying to leave the city....it got hotter and hotter... I knew it was going to be very warm when I got to the lake. At 9pm last night....it was still 92 degrees in the porch. But I toughed it out and didn't even turn on the AC !! LOL

So I got all my sewing stuff unpacked and laid out. And today - I am ready to get busy !!

This morning that cabin is nice and cool......with a brisk wind coming off the lake. I have pics and will post again later.

Saturday at the lake

Finally I made it to the lake for the weekend.........seems like forever since I have been here ! Rather quiet down here.......it is nearing the end of summer and many are thinking about closing up their cabins in a few weeks. Labor Day weekend is the last weekend for many.
I hope we can keep it open for a few more weeks......fall is a beautiful time of the year to be here. I enjoy the cooler days by the lake shore.
Next week I am taking a little mini-vacation to spend a couple days here and sew. So I "should" have a few projects to show you after that.
My husband and grandson arrived safely home from their 2 week vacation in China and they both have lots of stories to tell....Maybe he will let me borrow some pictures to share with you.

Monday........Monday..........

Backing up to last Sunday, Aug 7th. This is the Bluestem Amphitheater in Moorhead, MN. One night I entered a drawing for Alice Cooper tickets......and WON ! So I took a girlfriend and we went to see Alice Cooper. (he is from the 70's for you young ones) I liked some of his music when I was in high school...........and now I got to see him in concert. This is a very nice new facility for outdoor concerts and such. The first thing you noticed at the concert.....was......LOL......we were all much older than high school !

But Alice Cooper !!.......he looked pretty good (I think he is 62) And I really enjoyed his music.

Sorry the pics are a bit blurred........I was sitting WAY back in the general admission seats.....but for as far away as I was.........they turned out pretty good I thought.

He is quite a showman and really puts on a good show. One friend told me that she liked this show better than his concert she went to 33 years ago !! Now that really tells our age doesn't it.

We really enjoyed ourselves........I should enter some more contests and see if I can win anything.

As for the beginnings of this week.....well, rain in the forecast for the next couple days....we DON'T need anymore.. our rivers are so full....we are all starting to think about next spring already if this water in the rivers doesn't go WAY down......and go down fast.

The Garden

The garden is beautiful !!! No thanks to me....... I have not worked in the garden at all this year. My wonderful neighbor did all the planting and all the weeding. I have turned on the water a few times. I just have too much going on this year to set aside time for working outside....and my flowerbeds show it. She loves working outside and putting on the extra touches that make it so cute.

It is starting to produce now.....it has been a slow year for growing.

She brings me veggies from the garden.....and I sure do enjoy eating them.......I just wish I had a couple extra days in the week so I could do more of the things I enjoy.

I see tomatoes !!! I can't wait to have a BLT with REAL tomatoes.

Update from the travelers.......they had a delay getting to Shanghai.......there is typhoon brewing out in the ocean. I am waiting to hear they are at the next city on their journey.

Time to get busy !! You all have a wonderful day.

After the last rain

After the other day when we had that RAIN ! This was the back yards and the ditch out front.....

Well, it dried and drained off nice ...............but IT IS RAINING AGAIN !!!

The only good thing was I got the grass mowed before it rained again today !! Ugh.

The Pyrotechnic Guild is here again........and we are all looking forward to the beautiful fireworks.....so I hope the rain quits for the rest of the week !!!

I have friends who are part of the Pyro Guild that are here from Maryland. I am so anxious to see them again !! They bring LOTS of people to our area and we are glad to have them !!!

Guess I better get a move on !!!

Rain, rain, go away !

It was raining hard when I took these pictures this morning...........but NOW it is raining ten times harder !!! Unreal !!! the way the water is coming out of the sky !

It looks like a snowstorm out there......

RED ALERT calls rang in at 3:30am this morning........and it stormed for a couple hours......then settled down......and started again about 8:30 am. I need to head to town.....but you can't even drive in this.......or I am NOT going to drive in this.

My sump pump is working overtime already..........I sure hope it keeps going - or I will just stock some good eating fish in the basement ! Maybe some salmon and trout !

The "wet cycle" that they say we are stuck in - all I can say is it better dry up before it freezes or we better be building a very large boat ! - the word ark comes to mind.

Awwwwwwww........the little ditch in the back yard - is creeping across the back yard.......now THAT is just not good. Hmmmmmm I am going to have another cup of coffee while I search the internet for "how to build a boat FAST".
Better yet......I know a place that sells pontoons and it is just a few miles down the road.

I will let you know where I dock my new pontoon at.
