We are excited !!!

Hello - it is Thursday, January 27........... and I have to tell you how excited we get on a day like this !! See my deck !! .......all the snow is gone..... it is MELTING !!.... I was out scraping off the deck in my t-shirt !!....really I was !! There was nobody home to take my picture....so you will have to believe me and see my clean deck.

I got the steps cleaned off too! Now I can go up and down the steps. Then if you look to the lower deck.......you will see that is about a foot deep in snow......not melting enough to tackle that. And the yard is full of snow......and that will be there for a long time. Yesterday was great too !! But I was working inside and didn't get a chance to be out in it.

I really should tackle the front and the driveway a bit but....now the sun is going behind the clouds.. But ......just getting deck cleared off was a thrill !! Only in North Dakota do we get excited about 31 degrees and sun in January ! Guess that was our January thaw.

See - WATER... not ice !

Here is my proof of the mild temps today.................but alas it is short lived...........as cold weather will return for the weekend........ Oh well..........a little spring will keep us going through the next cold spell......and then I can stay in and sew all weekend.

Wednesday - Jan 26

Looks like a pretty nice day today ! .....it was almost "balmy" yesterday... think we were in the 20's, yes, ABOVE zero ! Today about the same and then back in the deep freeze for the weekend.

More hockey this weekend......

January 24th........

This is a picture of KIMA.......it is a ground beef - vegetable dish made with curry. It is so colorful and fresh tasting....you spoon it over cooked rice.... Very good on a cold winter night. A quilt block I made for a block exchange that I belong to.

How did that bird get in here ???............This is my little bluebird who lives in my sewing room and comes out to tease the cats now and then.

We are still quite cold here in North Dakota...... Can I please just stay inside for the next 2 months? - I am beginning to understand why people from this area become "Snow birds" and head south. Even a couple weeks would be great to thaw out and just enjoy a little bit of warm.

BUT on the other hand this is great weather for quilting and knitting and those activities that "some of us" have ample supplies to just putter around and work on different projects.

Speaking of quilting............I better get back to work.

It is cold, cold, cold here in North Dakota............
Not fit for man nor beast out there ~!
I tell my dogs and the cats how lucky they are to be inside and warm.
At the 5 o'clock news they issued a " Extreme cold weather warning" ....that is a first for us here....usually it is a severe wind chill warning.....but this is just plain COLD.

Another snowy day

Snowed off and on again today....temps are going to get REALLY cold by the end of the weekend....so they say. Good weekend to stay in and sew.
Just wanted to share with you the table runner I just finished for the quilt shop.

A new week...............

Jeff spent some time cleaning out the driveway ...........we had lots of snow in the driveway......but some people had HUGE drifts..... we got a total of 10 inches of snow from the 2 blizzards. Now we get the COLD temps. Brrrrrrrr Isn't this the life ?............These are my 2 sewing room cats......they are very good and don't get into anything while I am sewing.....

I made 6 of these blocks....they are 23" square and they will be the center of a quilt. I will show you when I get the top done.

So.........back to work today........... I hear the roads are still very slippery.....so I will have to add a bit of extra time on my commute today...... Just part of a lovely North Dakota winter........UGH.

New Year's Day !.......

This is the forecast from Thursday night.......telling us about round #2 of the blizzard that was coming for Friday and Saturday ! And it did............ it started blowing Friday afternoon and didn't quit till this morning.......we got another 4.8 inches of snow.

Love those wind gusts !!! ...........our dumpster went flying across the driveway...... and we watched the driveway fill up with snow.

Everything closed up Thursday......they closed the interstates and they are still closed now Saturday night..... ! Not sure what time they will get them open tomorrow.........and once they plow the snow...........the roads are very icy underneath.

So.........this is how we start 2011..... I hope this is not the picture of the rest of our winter !!

It has been long already..........Uff -da !!
