Busy, busy, busy

Just a quick post without a picture today.......
I hope your summer is going well.  We are working on our "plan C" house plans.  Been thru "A and B" and have made changes........so that brings us to plan C.  On the home-front I am going through things and de-cluttering.  Those of you who know me know that I like "stuff".... LOL....not quite to the hoarder level....but I sometimes feel that way.  I came from a family of "savers" and then they left this earth....and left ME all their savings....and I am NOT talking money !

So....as go thru boxes and drawers........ I find all sort of funny things.

Off to work today and then back to my sorting ...........
I will keep you posted !

Building has begun

The other day they tore off the old deck.......both the top deck and the lower deck.  Can't believe how "wore out" that wood was........doesn't seem that long ago that we built it.....
Poor dogs are so confused as to where their deck went !And  now they just about have the new deck built...... waiting for the cement guys to come pour a slab and then they will build the steps.

Now see if I can get a post on here..... Someone mentioned that I had not written on my blog for a long time....... I had trouble getting pictures on it and could not get my posts to post......so  this is sort of a test run to see how it goes.

The cat in the picture.......is Tiger Lily.......better known as "Ti - Willwee"   She was quite the girl !!!  She passed away several months ago....... I still think she will come around a corner.... She was almost 18 years old.

Still have 4 cats and 2 dogs...........
Let's see if this post shows up.
Keep your fingers crossed !

October 8, 2014

October is here... The weather is changing ... We are preparing for winter...  I hate to think of days and weeks of snow.
I went on a bus tour to Des Moines, Iowa to a quilt show.  Had a great time ! Looked at so many beautiful quilts and I always admire the talent and the time it takes to make them.  I have never entered anything in a show and probably never will, but I love to see what others make.  Of course I did some shopping too !  My girlfriend and I decided that we want to learn wool appliqué.  So... We got a few kits and patterns and now we just need some more time to learn and sew.   I also want to learn to do hand appliqué.. And of course I have a pattern all picked out that I want to make.
Now our shopping sprees are our way of "stash building for retirement".

Quilt Market in Houston is coming soon... Quilt Market is a great time for shop owners to see all the new things and plan the coming year for their quilt shops and plan classes and projects.  I am always amazed at the new fabric and patterns to add to the shops and make available to the customers to foster their love for sewing and quilting.  I wish my Grandmothers could see all the fabric and tools and patterns that we now have to design and sew our quilts.  I wish that I could show my Grandmothers the quilts that I have made and that they would know that is because of them that I wanted to learn to sew and knit and make things like I saw them make. I am lucky to have quilts and doilies and things that they made.. I treasure those items and they are very much a part of me.

Time to get busy and see what I can get done today.

July 21

And I thought June went by fast ?   Unreal how fast this month went.  I really want time to slow down..... I can't keep up.  Remember that saying "The faster I go, the behinder I get."  How true.

I went to a visitation today to say good-bye to a long time family friend.  Ruth celebrated her 100th birthday last February.  I had known this lady all my life.  I remember her coming to visit my grandmother, they would visit and have a little lunch and coffee.  I even remember her mother. (I really am not that old, I just have a good memory of things that took place 50 plus years ago.)
I remember going to her apartment a few years ago... I went to see a quilt that she had pieced the Dresden plates many years before.. And she was working on sewing them onto blocks it to get it finished... She didn't know it at the time, but her daughter-in-law was going to quilt it and surprise her with it at a birthday party.
That quilt was there today and the story about that quilt -it was 40 years in the making- was written in her hand writing telling the story of that quilt.
In recent years I have come to know her daughter, and 2 of her daughter-in-laws. I see them from time to time because 2 of them are quilters.... amazing how quilting weaves it's way into our lives and into our memories.
