October is here... The weather is changing ... We are preparing for winter... I hate to think of days and weeks of snow.
I went on a bus tour to Des Moines, Iowa to a quilt show. Had a great time ! Looked at so many beautiful quilts and I always admire the talent and the time it takes to make them. I have never entered anything in a show and probably never will, but I love to see what others make. Of course I did some shopping too ! My girlfriend and I decided that we want to learn wool appliqué. So... We got a few kits and patterns and now we just need some more time to learn and sew. I also want to learn to do hand appliqué.. And of course I have a pattern all picked out that I want to make.
Now our shopping sprees are our way of "stash building for retirement".
Quilt Market in Houston is coming soon... Quilt Market is a great time for shop owners to see all the new things and plan the coming year for their quilt shops and plan classes and projects. I am always amazed at the new fabric and patterns to add to the shops and make available to the customers to foster their love for sewing and quilting. I wish my Grandmothers could see all the fabric and tools and patterns that we now have to design and sew our quilts. I wish that I could show my Grandmothers the quilts that I have made and that they would know that is because of them that I wanted to learn to sew and knit and make things like I saw them make. I am lucky to have quilts and doilies and things that they made.. I treasure those items and they are very much a part of me.
Time to get busy and see what I can get done today.
